“Mama?”

Sornoth looked at the door that pushed open. He unwound himself from his mate and went to his son, grabbing a towel from the cupboard on the way. He wrapped the towel around his hips and saw Havnoth looking back in Nyna’s room at his mother’s empty bed.

“Hey, little man. Mama’s asleep.”

Havnoth frowned. “Where?”

Sornoth picked him up and walked him to the other room, where the dim light showed Nyna with her hair tumbled out on the pillow, a flush to her cheeks. “There’s Mama. She sleeps here now.”

“Oh. Firstee. Mama!” he called out, and Nyna stirred.

Sornoth chuckled and walked into Nyna’s room, and sure enough, there was a child’s cup in the bathroom with handles and a sippy top.

He filled it halfway with water and carried Havnoth back to the nursery. The nanny was asleep, and she jumped when Sornoth tucked his son in with his water cup.

Havnoth slurped away, and Sornoth turned to leave. “Night, Papa!”

Sornoth fought the feeling of his heart swelling in his chest. He got back to his room, dropped his towel, and crawled in bed next to his mate. Her lashes were dark crescents on her cheeks. This woman had had every chance to vilify him to his son, use vile language to describe him and his actions involving her, but instead... Instead, she had raised a sweet boy who loved her, his father, and now him. She had kept his thoughts regarding his father blank and placed him in that role now that he was back. It would take a while to settle completely, but for now, he was Papa and glad for it.

He held his mate in his arms, and the horrors of the last two and a half years were pushed aside for now. He would have to relive those moments in the hearings, but right now, they were lightyears away.

She murmured, “How much did you give him?”

“Half his little cup.”

She reached around and patted his back. “Good boy.” She dozed off again

He stifled his laughter. She lost her hesitation in her sleep and around her son. When she talked about Havnoth, she was fearless.

He wished he didn’t question his motivations that first night, but he had wanted sex and had wanted it with the young woman in the red cloak. Who wore red to run curfew? Finding out that she had been dumped into the most dangerous situation for a woman like her should have been sobering, but he just wanted her. His senses had told her that she was right, ripe, and ready for him. He had used her hormonal delirium to his advantage. It made him a bit of a bastard, but then, he thought about his son, and he just regretted the timing. Nyna had deserved a courtship, and she had received nothing. He needed to make that up to her.
